Why/how
I started cycling:
I started
cycling when I began Triathlons. I was such a bad swimmer and
runner I had to find on event that I could excel at.
Current
Cycling
Motivation:
To finish my
next half Iron Man with a 23 mph average or greater.
Cycling Goals and Interests:
I want to join the
FCP group on the ride across Iowa
Other Interesting
Facts: I
enjoy teaching 7th grade Sunday School. Multi-sports. Boating &
Water sports.
Cycling
History/Accomplishments:
Finished 1st and second, in my age group, on the bike
in two Olympic and sprint races in 2004.
Best finish
- Our team of 3 finished second out of 800 cyclists in the
"Gambler".
Favorite
ride - Blairsville Ride
Longest
race/ride - Jacks summer century, 103 miles
Fastest
race/ride - 26.1 mph average on the Lunch-time 20-miler.
Most Memorable/Best Cycling Story:
While doing the "Gambler Ride" in Athens GA we were misdirected
four miles off course. Our group of three got back on track and
at mile 37 of the metric century I crashed while crossing a 120
year old covered bridge. My bike was in bad shape but we were
able to repair it and finish the ride. Our team finished in
second place.
Best/Favorite Sport:
Cycling, I enjoy riding with the group and camaraderie it invokes
along with the opportunity to spend time outdoors.
Worst
crash:
I crashed
while crossing a 120-year-old covered bridge in Athens. The wood
was so smooth that my tires began to slide as though I were riding
on ice. I crashed headfirst, thank God for helmets, into a 16" X
24" massive wood beam. The beam survived; my head and bike did
not fare as well.
