Favorite
bike:
My Cannondale Multi-Sport 4000.
Why/how
I started cycling:
In 1997, after 5 years of competitive running at 5K distances up
to marathons, I started swimming for the benefits of
cross-training and also out of boredom from too much running. As I
regained form in the water, I realized that I lacked one
discipline to be a triathlete - the bike. So I bought
a used Trek 400 from a friend in 1998. This bike was heavy and not
the best fit for me... but it was perfect. Only $100. I started
riding group rides but could never seem to keep up with the fast
guys on that bike. In January 1999, I bought the Cannondale.
Triathlete:
Since my first triathlon in 1998, I have competed in about
six per year
ranging in distance from sprint to Half-Ironman (1.2M Swim, 56M
Bike, 13.1M Run). This year, I will compete in Ironman World
Championship in Kona.
Cycling
Goals:
To keep up with Ralph and to be a good triathlete.
Athletic
Accomplishments:
I was pleased with my race in 2003 Ironman Florida Triathlon,
9:23:17, 4th in my age group; thereby, qualifying me for the World
Ironman Championship in Hawaii! Ralph was very happy that
I rode the 112 mile course in 4:52:01, or 23.01 mph.
Interesting
Goals:
To help my children choose an active lifestyle. To stay active
myself for all the days God gives me. To maintain
balance in other areas of life as well.
Other
interesting facts:
I am a Sunday school teacher for high school seniors at Norcross
First UMC. I have run five marathons including "The Boston" in
sub three hours. In college at Georgia Tech, I worked out a deal
with the swim team coach that if he would get me a dorm room,
I would swim for him as fast as I could. Georgia Tech was not
a college powerhouse in swimming. Despite my best efforts, I was
unable to win many points for Georgia Tech Swimming.
