Lee Freeman

Nickname:
Lee

Family:
My wife, Mary Scott; two kids: Will, 11; and Elizabeth, 9; and one Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Jessie (all are avid cyclists. except Jessie!).

Favorite bike:
My Litespeed Saber.

Why/how I started cycling?
I started recreational cycling in graduate school (1986) for stress relief from school, but I did not take my cycling seriously. I do take my faith in Jesus Christ seriously and I am constantly looking for ways to share my life and faith with others. In January 2002, I was looking for a way to spend more time with my friends, Steve Kester and Jon Colehower (both guys are far better athletes than I will ever be!). Jon and I were training for the Tri-Blue Sky sprint triathlon series. Steve was training for Ironman Florida and encouraged me to join rides with Frazier Cycling. From my first ride with Ralph Frazier, I fell in love with cycling!

Current cycling motativation:
"Finish fast". I'm a terrible swimmer and I normally need to catch the pack during the bike leg.

Goals and cycling interests:
First and foremost, is to glorify and enjoy Jesus Christ. The Bible says whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Secondly, is to compete well. When my kids ask me how I finished a race, I want to be able to tell them, "I did my best." Thirdly, to encourage the joy of cycling with my family.

Greatest Cycling Fear:
Becoming mesmerized by the wheel that I'm hanging onto! A tractor-trailer could be about to hit me and my only thought is "Don't lose that wheel!"

Coolest Triathlon Event:
Last summer, my two kids, the Kesters' oldest two kids, and the Murphys' oldest child, all competed in the Tri-America Kids Triathlon at Lake Lanier. Their performances were incredible and they had so much fun! After the race, each kid received a "Triathlon Club" tee-shirt that Steve Kester had made for them. The looks on their faces showing their pride were priceless. It's a memory that I will never forget!

Number of bikes:
Two. My Litespeed Saber and a Trek 2300 (which stays permanently on the wind trainer).
