Brian Burke
Nickname:
"B2" (B-Squared)

Favorite bike:
My new ride...Cannondale (what else?) CAAD6/R4000.

Why/how I started cycling:
My younger brother gave me a new mountain bike which I rode for a year and bent the frame on an Alaska mountain biking/fishing trip. In 1998 I purchased a Cannondale MS600 and competed in a few triathlons and got hooked. I now own a 1999 Cannondale MS4000 and a R4000.

Cycling Goals:
To ride long and fast. I am an adrenaline junkie...I love seeing my heart rate climb along with my speedometer. I will always push myself for fitness and speed.

Cycling History/Accomplishments:
Completing the cycling leg of the 2000 Great Floridian Ironman Triathlon in which I averaged ~21 mph (solo) on a hot, windy day in Central Florida. That speed put me in the top 5% of competing athletes that day. My team finished 2nd in the male open division. In coming years I look forward to future trips, spending long times in the saddle, with Ralph and the Frazier Cycling Partners.

Athlete Accomplishments:
As an adult, winning some and placing in most of the triathlons that I compete in as a Clydesdale (over 200 lb). To be truthful, I find more satisfaction in the training aspect of athletics and the camaraderie that always develops with the people I train with.

Worst crash:
Though for most of my Frazier riding friends, Chattanooga 2001, would/should be my worse crash but no, no, no...riding (solo) from Suwanee to Peachtree Corners in Norcross, Georgia in June of 2000, I was blown over by a fast moving truck as I was going around a corner at a high rate of speed. Needless to say, road rash ruled! It has made me appreciate that not every driver feels that cyclists should be allowed to use "their" roads.

Interesting Goals:
I want to compete in a long distance cycling event such as a ride across America as a fund raiser for diabetes or cancer. Most of all, I want my children growing up being inspired that if they are willing to work hard enough, anything is possible.
