Beginners’ Series
The 2007 Allgood Cycle
For Parkinsons Criterium at Georgia Gwinnett College is the first race in
hopefully a series of races called the Beginners’ Series. The series is
designed to accommodate juniors, cat 5 men and cat 4 women racers by
providing an opportunity for them to race with peers. It has become
increasingly difficult here in Georgia for these groups of racers to enter
USCF races that recognize the need for separate categories for beginning
racers. It is our hope that the “Beginners” will come out in force and
attend this race. Their participation will keep the series alive.

Remember the first
time you tried clip-less pedals on your road bike? Remember how you
struggled to clip in when starting on a hill or couldn’t clip out in time
when stopping? You knew what to do, you just couldn’t do it. There are 1.2
million Americans with Parkinson’s disease with similar experiences; except
the Parkinson’s patients experience these motor difficulties on a daily
basis when performing activities such as dressing and eating.
The Cycle for
Parkinson’s event will benefit the American Parkinson’s disease Association
and the non-profit Pedaling for Parkinson’s. Both of these organizations
are focused on “easing the burden” of those suffering with Parkinson’s.
Easing the burden means providing Parkinson’s patients with exercise
opportunities, patient education, patient support groups and respite for
caregivers of advanced Parkinson’s patients.
These organizations
are unique as they aim to improve the quality of life of Parkinson’s
patients through these programs and through the support of research that
will have an immediate impact on the treatment of Parkinson’s disease
thereby improving their quality of life. Many Parkinson’s patients say, “I
know what I want to do with my hands or legs, but I can’t make them do it.”
Time for you to “clip in” and start racing, join us in the 2007 Cycle
for Parkinsons Criterium, May 19.
